"Claudette Enman's paintings celebrate the beauty in ordinary human experience, a simple wine supper, a vase of common flowers, a beachview or landscape when the light is just so. Artful compositions and a warm palette captivate the viewer, but the lushness of oil paint is invariably her true subject, inviting a second and third look."

Artist's Statement I believe that beauty can be found in the simplicity of what's seen every day so it's never difficult to find a subject to paint. I love to paint in oils. While I have tried other mediums and still go back to them from time to time, I always return to oil painting. I am drawn to the vividness and richness of oil paints. I generally work with a limited palette because I find I can get every color, tone and hue I need and a limited palette naturally brings cohesiveness to the piece. I enjoy experimenting with style and techniques, sometimes painting in a classically realistic or a more painterly style.
As an artist, my main enjoyment is seeing a painting come to life, a blank canvas magically transformed. I become immersed in the process. My creations tend to have a sculptural quality with warm tones and vibrant color. I want my viewers to find my work engaging and uplifting.
I paint only in natural light, directly on the canvas, without a preliminary sketch. This allows me to be spontaneous and uninhibited in my interpretation, making changes freely as the painting evolves.
